Again, I know. That title.
I’ve been itching to get my hands on some good food. With the current health crisis and people being safer at home (which you totally need to do), I thought I’d make a circuit of visiting some good spots as I accomplished the day’s errands. Here’s where I ended up.
El Ruso
Nothing beats a day outside quite like tacos from El Ruso. Handmade flour toritillas, mated with wonderfully cooked carnes, really deserve awards of its own. They announced a limited sale and required a text or DM on the Gram. This visit involved the consumption of two adasa, birria, and chile colorado. The dining area was closed off (because, you know, dealdy virus), so they packed up everything you need, salsas and all.
Lokel Love by Lokels Only
I don’t know too much about Lokels Only, but they are a space for creative professionals. With all the health stuff going around, they stepped up and reached out to some popup vendors and offered their space as a safe place to setup and serve. It’s a very kind gesture, especially in the current climate. The following spots were part of this event called Lokel Love. Orders were taken online. You can choose your fave dishes and a time slot to come through.
Pan Con Carne by A’s BBQ
My homie Alan was smashing his burgers, both beef and al pastor. A customer didn’t pick up their order, so I took it instead. (I mean, he offered). You wait, lose weight!

Mano Po
All I know about these guys is that they serve Filipino dishes and they are one of the new vendors at Smorgasburg. They served up a Chicken Inasal, a well-known grilled chicken dish.

Taste of the Pacific
I believe I’ve had food from these guys previously, but from where escapes me. They also serve Filipino fare, but in the form of chicken and pork skewers and beef short rib (all good by the way).
Teofilo Coffee Company
Honestly, you can give me coffee brewed from Mr. Coffee and I’ll be fine. With that said, I try a well-made cup once in a while; and this was very good coffee. I can’t quite pinpoint it, but I definitely get flavors that remind me when I had visited the Philippines.
Pearl River Delta (PRD)
You would think Chinatown would have a satisfactory number of Chinese restaurants and leave you wanting nothing more. Well…here’s Pearl River Delta. They specialize in Cantonese dishes, but try to balance the tradition of a dish, yet elevate it. They are taking take out orders over the phone, and this order was ready in about 10 minutes. This visit consisted of the Soy Sauce Chicken and Char Siu bowls. Both were very good.
Well, I finished my errands, got enough food to feed a small village, and survived another day.
